    DocAssist Scribes experience firsthand the interaction between providers and patients. They observe the entire process including history and physical, diagnostic interpretation, and disposition. DocAssist allows Scribes to fully immerse themselves in the medical field unlike most other jobs.

    Responsibilities

    POSITION SUMMARY
    The Scribe assists the provider by accompanying him/her during the medical history taking and eaxam, documenting details of the history and exam into the medcial records at the direction of the provider, and coordinating the departmental resources regarding tests, orders, radiology and results. The Scribe tracks the results of orders for each patient, records results into the EMR, and notifies the provider of results as they arrive.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES: *
    1. Record details of chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems, past medical history, social history, family medical history, disease risk factors, medications and allergies.
    2. Record details of physical exam, including pertinent positives and negatives, noted abnormalities and patient general condition. If orders are not completed in a timely fashion or if results are incomplete, investigate causes and solutions.
    3. Other duties as delineated by the provider within the Scribe’s scope of practic

    * (For duties 1-3, information is obtained directly from provider. The Scribe will not act independently or perform medical decision–making.)

    Qualifications

    EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE:

    1. High school diploma and, preferably, one year of college in the area of Pre-Health Studies.


    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

    1. Working knowledge of medical terminology and accepted abbreviations
    2. Understanding of the physical exam process and ability to record exam details
    3. Legible handwriting and ability to record information accurately
    4. Computer proficiency and ability to learn new applications quickly
    5. Communication skills and the ability to coordinate and cooperate with multiple members of the healthcare team
    6. Professional demeanor and recognition of privacy considerations with respect to patients and families


    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

    1. Flexibility in scheduling
    2. Coping with the sometimes high-pressure environment of the hospital and/or healthcare organization
    3. Discretion to understand and observe the limits of the Scribe’s role

     

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    1. Standing for long periods of time
    2. Frequent walking for short distances
    3. Repetitive motion work with keyboards, physical writing
